Exploring a Timeless Civilization

Over the last few weeks, students have examined ancient Egypt from multiple perspectives. They learned about the legendary Nile River, discovering why it was the lifeblood of this ancient civilization, providing water, food, and fertile soil for farming. The exploration continued with daily life, where they compared the roles of people, from farmers to craftsmen, and even learned about the mysterious process of mummification and the Egyptians’ beliefs about the afterlife. The students also discussed powerful pharaohs and their grand tombs, including the famous pyramids, uncovering the purpose of these magnificent structures. To bring their learning to life, the students enjoyed a fascinating field trip to the Nanyue King Museum. They explored a special Egypt exhibition, coming face-to-face with real artifacts, hieroglyphs, and sarcophagi, which deepened their understanding and made the ancient world feel surprisingly close.

They designed pages filled with facts about the Nile, daily life, and pharaohs, reflecting their learning throughout the unit. To showcase their understanding of genre and purpose, the students also put their creative writing skills to the test by creating persuasive advertisements for a trip to Egypt. Using powerful, imaginative language, they designed posters and radio jingles to convince others to visit the land of the pyramids, beautifully blending their historical knowledge with their writing skills.
