Our Year 4 students embarked on an extraordinary adventure to discover how art can express “Who We Are” through “Frida’s Paradox,” the remarkable exhibition at the Sea World Culture and Arts Center in Shenzhen.
爱莎天河四年级学生踏上了一场非凡的艺术探索之旅。他们前往深圳海上世界文化艺术中心,参观了“弗里达·伟大的隐藏者”特展,从中深刻体会到艺术如何表达“我是谁”这一主题。

An Immersive Artistic Exploration
身临其境的艺术探索

This wasn’t just another field trip. It was a chance for our young learners to make connections between art and identity, exploring how creative expression helps us understand ourselves and others.
这不仅是一次校外参观,更是一次让学生将艺术与自我认知相联结的珍贵机会。通过探索创造性表达,他们进一步理解了自我与他人。

Walking through galleries filled with Frida Kahlo’s vibrant paintings, personal artifacts, and handwritten letters, our students discovered that art tells stories – stories about feelings, experiences, and what makes each person unique.
漫步在充满弗里达·卡罗绚丽画作、个人物品与亲笔信件的展厅中,他们发现:艺术会讲故事——关于情感、经历,以及让每个个体独特而鲜活的一切。

The exhibition’s central concept resonated perfectly with our Primary Years Programme approach to learning. Through Frida’s self-portraits and still lifes, students explored how artists use visual elements like colour, shape, and form to communicate emotions and experiences.
展览的核心概念与小学项目(PYP)课程理念高度契合。通过观察弗里达的自画像与静物画,学生们深入思考艺术家如何运用颜色、形状与形态等视觉元素传递情感与体验。

They saw how Kahlo’s Mexican heritage influenced her creative choices, making connections to our current unit on cultural identity and belonging.
在本次参观中,他们还发现卡罗的墨西哥文化背景如何影响了她的创作选择,这也与当前单元中“文化认同与归属感”的主题产生了深刻共鸣。

Reflecting the True Self
照见真我

What struck us teachers most was watching students reflect on their own identities as they stood before Frida’s work. Many began asking themselves: “What would I paint about my life? How would I show others who I am?”
最令人动容的,是看到孩子们站在弗里达作品前深思的时刻。许多学生开始自问:“如果我要画我的人生,我会画什么?我该如何向别人展示我是谁?”

This authentic learning experience perfectly demonstrates how exposure to diverse perspectives and cultures enriches our students’ understanding of themselves and the world around them. Through Frida’s paradoxes – her pain and joy, her traditional and modern influences – our learners discovered that being human means embracing complexity.
