On World Book Day, 23rd April, ISA Tianhe hosted its eighth annual Book Week celebration. Under the theme “Book An Adventure”, the event offered students immersive literary experiences that brought stories to life. The guiding philosophy – Explore boundless worlds through books, discover endless joy through reading– perfectly embodies the IB learner profile attribute of being Risk-takers.
4月23日世界读书日之际,爱莎天河举办了第八届读书周系列活动。本届读书周以”书约世界,阅见奇遇”为主题,通过多种形式的阅读体验,让学生在互动中感受文学魅力。在书籍中探索广阔天地,于阅读里发现无限乐趣”的主题理念,完美诠释了IB教育敢于尝试的培养目标。学校组织了一系列充满冒险精神的阅读体验活动,让每一次阅读都成为发现新知的奇妙旅程。
Through a series of adventurous reading activities, every book became a passport to new discoveries. These interactive experiences not only broadened students’ literary horizons in engaging ways but also nurtured their creativity and imagination. As children transformed into book characters and classrooms became story settings, reading evolved from mere text engagement into a cross-cultural, time-travelling exploration – a vivid demonstration of the IB learner attributes Knowledgeable and Open-minded.

Bookmark Design

Prior to Book Week, librarian Ms. Yoyo organised a bookmark design competition. Students unleashed their creativity, turning paper into artistic mediums for their imagination – some bookmarks featured classic literary scenes while others presented characters through 3D paper-cutting. Each class selected their favourite designs to be professionally printed and shared with the school community. This ceremonial creative activity successfully ignited student participation and gave them a sense of achievement.
在读书周正式开始前,图书馆馆长Ms. Yoyo特别策划了一场书签设计大赛作为活动前奏。学生们以天马行空的创意,将纸张化作承载奇思妙想的艺术载体——有的书签绘制着经典文学场景,有的则用立体剪纸呈现书中角色。由每个班级评选出最受欢迎的设计,并进行印刷制作成书签,与社区成员分享。这场富有仪式感的创意活动,不仅成功激发了学生的参与热情,更让孩子们感受到成就感。

On Friday, students and teachers came to school dressed as their favourite book characters. They enthusiastically shared their beloved books and character stories. This immersive role-playing activity not only brought the school community closer through shared laughter but also brought literary characters to life on campus.
周五这天,师生们纷纷装扮成自己喜爱的书中角色走进校园。大家互相交流、分享各自钟爱的书籍和人物故事。这场沉浸式的角色互动,不仅让师生们在欢声笑语中拉近距离,更让书中角色走进校园。

Classroom doors were transformed into “story galleries”, where students and teachers collaboratively used various materials to decorate them as scenes from their favourite stories.

During the event, we were honoured to host internationally renowned author Kate O’Hearn, who delivered an engaging literary presentation for our students. Ms. Kate not only shared her writing journey vividly but also interacted warmly with students, leading them in reading classic excerpts. These rich, enjoyable activities not only connected students with the author, allowing them to experience literary charm firsthand, but also ignited their reading passion and creative enthusiasm.

Book Fair

During the book fair’s interactive session, EY1 children selected books with parental guidance, while older Early Years and Primary students completed independent purchases through peer-assisted selection. This process not only enhanced children’s ability to choose age-appropriate reading materials but also developed their practical cash-handling skills and financial awareness in today’s digital payment landscape.
在书展互动环节中,小小班的孩子们在家长陪同下选购图书,其他班级的幼儿园孩子与小学生完成自主购书。通过同伴互助的选书过程,孩子们不仅培养了选择适龄读物的能力,还在数字支付盛行的时代背景下,掌握了现金交易的基本技能和货币价值概念。

The buddy reading activity paired Early Years classes with Primary classes. It created a relaxed reading atmosphere where children gathered in classrooms or the library to enjoy shared reading experiences. Buddy Reading not only stimulated children’s interest in reading but also promoted interaction between children of different ages, enhancing ISA Tianhe community engagement and communication

In this imaginative activity, children became story magicians, using their dexterity and creativity to make unique “story boxes” for their favourite books.

ISA Charity Book Drive

Ms. Yoyo, the school librarian, launched the “ISA Charity Book Drive” initiative during Book Week, successfully engaging the entire school community. Children enthusiastically donated their pre-loved books, which will be distributed to underserved communities and rural libraries, helping more children discover the joy of reading.
在读书周期间,图书馆馆长Ms. Yoyo面向全社区发起了”爱心捐书”活动。孩子们积极响应,孩子们纷纷捐出自己阅读过的书籍。这些满载爱心的书籍将被送往有需要的慈善社区图书馆和乡村图书馆,为更多孩子带去阅读的快乐。
Through the Book Week activities, we aim to foster students’ holistic development within the IB Education framework. We encourage children to engage in deep reading—not merely to acquire knowledge, but also to spark imagination and creativity. These innovative activities, integrated with philanthropic elements, enable children to enjoy reading while enhancing their comprehension skills, teamwork, communication abilities, and social responsibility.
