In this unit, the children embarked on an exploration of the diverse ways in which humans communicate with each other. Their journey encompassed an introduction to greetings used across the globe, delving into the cultural nuances and linguistic diversities that shape how people initiate conversations in different parts of the world.

“Who Are We” is an inquiry into the nature of the self; beliefs and values; personal, physical, mental, social and spiritual health; human relationships including families, friends, communities, and cultures; rights and responsibilities; what it means to be human.

The students actively engaged in discussions about the qualities of effective and ineffective communication, learning to distinguish what constitutes good and bad communication practices. They also identified and analysed various forms of verbal and nonverbal communication, recognising the importance of body language, facial expressions, and tone of voice in conveying meaning and emotions.

Inquire 探究

To deepen their learning, each child was encouraged to select an area of personal interest within the broad topic of communication to explore further. Their individual research projects, which you can view in the accompanying videos, showcase a wide range of fascinating subjects, demonstrating the children’s enthusiasm and curiosity about the many facets of human communication.

Throughout this unit, not only did the children enhance their understanding of communication, but they also honed their skills as communicators themselves. They developed greater proficiency in articulating their thoughts and ideas, as well as in listening actively and empathetically to others. Moreover, their knowledge base has been expanded significantly, equipping them with a deeper appreciation for the complex and multifaceted nature of human communication.
