In May 2024, students from Year 4 and Year 5 at ISA Tianhe, embarked on an unforgettable residential trip to the picturesque town of Yangshuo in Guangxi, China. This four-day adventure was designed to foster the development of the IB learner profile attributes, allowing the students to grow outside of an academic setting.
2024年5月,爱莎天河学校四年级和五年级的学生前往风景如画的广西阳朔小镇,开始了一次难忘的营地之旅。这次为期四天的活动旨在促进IB学习者的均衡发展,让学生在生活和学习等方面获得全面成长。
In camp, children have the opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, connect with nature, and learn teamwork and leadership skills.
在营地里,孩子们有机会远离城市的喧嚣,接触大自然,学习团队合作和领导力技能。营地教育也让孩子们学会独立和自理,培养他们的责任感和决策能力。

IB Learner Profile IB培养目标
Outdoor education, as an important part of IB teaching, can well cultivate students’ spirit of Risk Taker, Inquirer, Balanced, Knowledgeable, Communicator and Caring. The IB inquiry-based teaching mode is adopted in our daily teaching. Apart from guiding students to make use of online and offline learning resources, students are also encouraged to integrate into the society and experience different activities.
户外教育作为IB教学重要的一部分,能够很好地培养学生勇于尝试、积极探究、全面发展、知识渊博、善于交流、懂得关爱的精神。在日常教学中采用IB探究式教学模式,除了引导学生利用线上、线下学习资源以外,还鼓励他们融入社会,体验不同的活动。
ISA Tianhe camp emphasises “learning by doing”, allowing students to deepen their understanding of knowledge through practical operation, hands-on participation and direct observation, exceeding through the traditional classroom and connecting theory to the real world. The camp is customized by professionals such as education experts, teachers and mentors after arriving at the local area for practical visits. It is a journey to challenge and improve oneself.
营地教学强调“做中学”让学生在实际操作、亲身参与和直接观察中深化对知识的理解,突破传统课堂的局限,使理论知识与现实世界紧密相连。爱莎天河学校的营地之旅是教育专家、教师和行业导师等专业人士在到达当地实践走访后精心定制的户外活动项目,是结合体力磨练和心灵感知的一次难忘行程。
Day 1: An Exciting Beginning
第一天:踏上旅途
The children arrived promptly at ISA Tianhe and the excitement was palpable as they prepared for their bus ride to South Railway station. The journey to Yangshou was a thrilling one, with the train reaching speeds of over 200 km/h. The view of the Karst scenery from the train window was absolutely breathtaking. Upon arrival at Guilin Bei station, the children were introduced to the Keystone team. They were in for a treat as they were told that they would be visiting Moon Hill for some incredible views. However, to fully appreciate the view, they had to conquer a staggering 800 steps. It was a challenging climb, but with the sun shining on their backs, they persevered and reached the top. The effort was definitely worth it, as the view from the summit took their breath away. Afterwards, the group traveled to the campsite, which is situated on a beautiful lake with majestic mountains as the backdrop. Here, they engaged in team-building activities that allowed everyone to get to know each other better.
开营当天,孩子们兴奋地早早到达了学校,为启程做足了准备。集合好后,便踏上了前往阳朔的行程。在高速行驶的列车上,道路两旁的风景尽收眼底,一路上穿过了喀斯特地貌,孩子们兴奋地讨论着,被大自然的鬼斧神工所震撼。行程第一站到达了月亮山。为欣赏到独特的景色,孩子们勇往直前,不惧烈日,攀爬过800个阶梯,到达山顶,享受挑战后大自然带来的壮丽景观。爬山结束后,孩子们前往到当晚的露营地,依山傍湖,景色秀丽。孩子们在此扎起帐篷,亲近自然。晚上营地组织了团建活动,增进了相互之间的友谊。

Day 2: Cooking and Bike Ride
第二天:烹饪 & 自行车骑行
Day 2 was filled with exciting activities. The cooking and bike ride activities were excellent and well-delivered, providing the children with hands-on experiences and opportunities to learn new skills. It was a fun and interactive day for everyone involved.
第二天的活动紧凑且精彩。烹饪活动和自行车骑行,让孩子们体验了动手和运动的乐趣。在活动中,每个学生都全身心投入其中,突破课室的壁垒,在大自然中学习。

Day 3: Rock Climbing and Caving
第三天:攀岩 & 洞穴探险
The adventure continued on Day 3 with rock climbing and caving activities. These activities were well-planned and delivered, ensuring the safety and enjoyment of all participants. Rock climbing and caving provide unique challenges and opportunities for personal growth, as the children tested their physical and mental capabilities while exploring the natural wonders of the area.
探险是第三天活动的主线。孩子们出发前,学校已经在保障安全和趣味性的同时,为本次出行做足了攻略。孩子们在不断挑战自我中尝试了攀岩和洞穴探险。过程中,他们探索了地形地貌,强壮了体力,也锻炼了解决问题的能力。

Day 4: Fan Painting and Old Town Exploration
第四天:绘画 & 古城探索
Day 4 began with a fan painting activity, allowing the children to unleash their creativity and express themselves through art. Afterward, they took a leisurely walk around the old town, immersing themselves in the rich history and culture of the area. It was a fascinating experience to see the traditional architecture and soak in the atmosphere of the old town.
第四天孩子们体验了创作绘画活动。他们在扇子上展现自己的创作才能,用艺术的方式表达自己。扇子绘画活动结束后,他们漫步老城区,感受这里的人文文化,静静“倾听”老城的历史,欣赏古老的建筑。

The trip was filled with exciting adventures, beautiful landscapes, and engaging activities. The children have had the opportunity to challenge themselves, connect with nature, and bond with their peers. It was a journey that combined fun, learning, and personal growth, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
本次阳朔之旅完美收官。孩子们在充满挑战和乐趣的互动中增进了同窗情谊,也拥有了亲近大自然的机会。这不仅是一次难忘的旅程,更在孩子们的成长中画上了浓墨重彩的一笔。

There are many things that I really enjoyed, such as cooking and hiking… The things I enjoyed the most were biking and caving. We went biking on the second day, it was fun and relaxing. “For our residential trip, we went to Yangshuo. I enjoyed this trip very much; my favorite part of the trip was having adventures in the mud cave because it made me extremely excited. The part where I felt proud of myself was the rock climbing. At first, I was very afraid of rock climbing because there are lots of bugs and it is remarkably high, but I still tried it and I did an excellent job, I became a risktaker. After the trip, I felt I had learned many valuable experiences, such as how to build camps and cook.”

Overall, the Y4&5 Residential Trip to Yangshuo was a resounding success and a transformative experience for our young learners.
